The neck has always been a cause of concern for many people as skin laxity, fine lines and wrinkles are not easy to hide with the onset of age. The neck area is difficult to treat and has thin skin, often requiring a combination of non-invasive treatments. Thus, neck rejuvenation treatments are sought after to achieve skin lifting and tightening, skin healing, deep skin hydration, and anti-ageing outcomes.
There are currently five well-known neck rejuvenation treatment options – Thermage FLX, HIFU, Rejuran, Botulinum Toxin, Profhilo, and Plasma Lift.
Read on to find out how each of these treatments can help with your neck concerns.
Thermage FLX

Thermage FLX is the 4th generation of Thermage technology. This non-invasive radiofrequency therapy helps smoothen, tighten and contour skin, reduce skin laxity, fine lines, and wrinkles for a younger-looking appearance.
A handheld device is pressed onto the treatment area to deliver heat to the inner layers of your skin while keeping the external layer of the skin cool. This heat sensation stimulates natural collagen production in the body, resulting in new collagen growth, which is key to revitalising the skin and reducing the appearance of loose skin beneath the jawline.
The gentle heating also remodels and tightens the existing collagen matrix, resulting in a skin lifting and tightening effect. This achieves a three-dimensional skin contour.
HIFU – High Intensity Focused Ultrasound

Rejuran is an injectable treatment that improves the skin’s self-regenerating capabilities, resulting in skin rejuvenation. It contains polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN), which has wound-healing capabilities. This substance is derived from the DNA of salmon sperm.
In particular, Rejuran is effective in treating horizontal necklines. These are linear etched lines that appear at a young age, becoming entrenched over time. Many factors contribute to horizontal necklines, such as sun exposure, genetics, and lifestyle factors such as cell phone addictions.
Rejuran’s healing properties also mean that eczema, acne, or scars can be treated. Fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, and skin laxity are reduced, with an overall anti-ageing effect.

Botulinum Toxin

Botulinum toxin is often done in combination with other neck rejuvenation treatments such as Thermage FLX or HIFU, Ultraformer.
For instance, the popular Nefertiti’s Lift (named after the Egyptian Queen Nefertiti) combines botulinum toxin and other therapies such as Ultraformer 3 to treat wrinkles caused by ageing and sun exposure.
The Nefertiti’s Lift targets the neck muscles called platysma bands, which are the two vertical muscles that start at the neck’s base, running up to the jaw. These muscles lose tautness over time as they are heavily utilised, resulting in skin laxity at the neck area.
During the Nefertiti’s Lift, muscle relaxing injections such as Botulinum toxin, are injected into the neck to paralyse the Platysma neck muscles, reducing wrinkles and vertical necklines. This relaxes the muscles pulling down the jawline, thereby lifting and tightening the skin around the jawline.
The end result is a lifting effect around the lower jawline and smoother skin around the neck area.

Profhilo

Profhilo is a dermal filler consisting of advanced hyaluronic acids with bio-remodeling properties that can restore skin epidermal structure. It is injected into the dermis to stimulate the production of more hyaluronic acid, collagen, and elastin, thereby treating skin laxity and hydrating the skin.
Hyaluronic acid is well known for its firming and plumping effect – it is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies, holding up to 1,000 times its own weight in hydration. Profhilo differs from a regular dermal filler as it does not superficially “fill” areas with less volume. Instead, it stimulates the natural skin renewal cycle, resulting in increased production of multiple types of collagen and elastin.
As Profhilo contains hyaluronic acids of differing molecular weights, it distributes itself smoothly and uniformly under the skin, resulting in a more comprehensive treatment. The impact is deeper than an injectable treatment. Once Profhilo is injected along the necklines and absorbed deep into the skin, it hydrates and rejuvenates your skin from the inside out, restoring volume and fullness. After a few days, you will observe the disappearance of neck wrinkles.
Overall, Profhilo is effective for deep and lasting skin hydration, especially for horizontal necklines and dry skin at the neck area. It targets skin laxity in the neck and décolletage area, resulting in a long-lasting and natural-looking lift.

Plasma Lift

The Plasma Lift uses nitrogen plasma energy, it is commonly used to lighten hyperpigmentation, remove necklines, tighten loose and saggy skin, and is suitable for all skin types and tones.
The plasma energy generated heats the skin’s surface to remove damaged epidermal cells and stimulates collagen growth and remodeling below the skin surface. This allows evenly distributed absorption and heating of targeted issues without disrupting the skin’s outer layer. Ageing skin is tightened in the dermis layer, while collagen growth is stimulated in the hypodermis layer.
A newer, healthier, and tighter skin layer is formed a few days after treatment. Though there is no damage to the skin, some patients may experience mild exfoliation during the process of new skin emerging. Plasma Lift is suitable for all skin tones, unlike some laser treatments that may not suit darker skin. It is also effective in treating all skin layers, as the doctor can control treatment depth by adjusting energy levels. Though popular as an eyelid treatment, Plasma Lift effectively treats fine necklines and tighten loose skin.
With advancements in medical research, there are many treatments for the neck area, which was traditionally not easy to treat. Now that you have a better understanding of each option, you can decide which is best suited to your needs. However, the specific treatment required will ultimately depend on the doctor’s diagnosis and assessment. Do reach out to the team at Zoe Medical who will be happy to assist.
